How To Choose The Right Shoes For Prom

How To Choose The Right Shoes For Prom
So you have the dress, you have the accessories, and you know exactly how you’re going to wear your hair. But now you’re stuck on what shoes to buy. Buying prom shoes can even be more exciting than buying the dress as there seem to be endless options out there. Style, color, and heel height are all things to take into consideration when looking for your perfect pair to wear on your big night.
It’s Never too Soon to Look
Given just how difficult the choice for what prom shoes to wear will be, you can start months prior looking for the perfect pair. As a matter of fact, a lot of girls choose the shoes first and then buy the dress to compliment the shoes!
When trying on your prom shoes, make sure that you do so when it is later on in the day. After a good walk around the mall, your feet will swell. Your feet will also swell while you are walking around and dancing at prom, so it will be a good gauge on how comfortable your shoes will be on the big night.
Go for Comfort
No matter how hot a style may be, if the shoe is uncomfortable after wearing it for just a couple of minutes in the store you know it’s going to be killing your feet an hour into the night. Keep in mind that during your prom you will be walking, standing, and dancing the night away so it is imperative that you shoes are comfortable. Don’t try to trick yourself into thinking you will be able to handle the foot pain, either; you won’t, and those pretty prom shoes will be cast aside before the night is over.
TIP: Strappy sandals are a comfortable and stylish solution for almost any style of dress.
Open Toed or Close Toed?
The choice is really all up to you, though open toed shoes tend to be more causal than closed toed shoes. If you do go for the open toed look, it’s important to get or give yourself a great pedicure.
TIP: If you are planning to have the pedicure done by a professional, book at least a month or two in advance. Prom season is a busy time of year for nail salons, so you want to be sure that they will be able to book you in.
What Color to Choose?
You don’t want the shoes to match the color of your dress as that will look too “matchy-matchy” and tacky. Black shoes are almost always fashionable with any color dress (unless you are wearing a soft pastel) and try on metallic shades that will match both your skin tone and any accessories that you may have already picked out. Or, for a fun kooky twist, choose a color and style of shoe that is completely off the wall, like a pink shoe with white polka-dots or a pair of flat, vintage tennis shoes (hey, you know your feet will definitely be comfortable!).
